Formerly with the San Diego Foundation, BH convened the original founding team of Impact Without Borders. He is now spearheading efforts to raise our next round of funding and is an avid paddleboarder and a certified yoga instructor. BH’s background is in the social sector including non-profit management, government, and philanthropy.
Program lead for Business Model Validation Labs BMV01 and BMV02. Zuleyma will be facilitating during the third lab and assisting as needed in the coming months. She also wears the co-founder hat at ImpactAlpha, the Bloomberg for impact investment. You can find her meditating on compassion or going on runs with people.
Mary is active with the League of Women Voters and is a co-founder of the San Diego Deliberation Network that helps people, governments, and organizations collaboratively work through problems that are unsolvable without civic engagement.
Program lead for Business Model Validation Labs BMV01 and BMV02. Millard will be facilitating on the next BMV, is an active member of Tech Coast Angels-San Diego, and is focused on healthcare technology.
Kaison has worked with social enterprises for the past four years and has served as program lead for the San Diego Startup Leadership Program, is a StartingBloc fellow, and also a growth consultant. He is making sure that IWOB develops and sticks to our milestones. You can find him cooking for friends, rock climbing, doing jiu jitsu, or cycling around town.
Alex was recently appointed Program Director for the Collaboratory Downtown Initiative, where he runs programs for early stage entrepreneurs: he is now spearheading a collaboration between UCSD and the Downtown Partnership through this role. Alex will be helping IWOB think through our event logistics, as well as specific areas in our upcoming March Busines Model Validation Lab. Alex grew up in the DC area and is an operations guru.
Head of Marketing
Mia Mian is now co-organizing her 8th startup weekend and now serves as co-director of Startup Grind, one of San Diego's largest speaker series for startup topics. She is helping IWOB with marketing, pushing us to social calendars, and community outreach. If you're going to a startup event in San Diego, chances are she helped set it up :).
Rodrigo is the founder of Abogato which empower workers throughout California to know their rights and will be hanging out with us frequently as he grows his business. Rodrigo is a recovering employment defense attorney and might hip hop dance if you ask and drop the right beat.
James is on the original founding team of IWOB and helped start Impact Hub Istanbul. He has deep experience in education and helps guide IWOB's positioning as a convener and thought leader in the regional impact ecosystem. He will be helping IWOB think though specific themes of focus as well as identifying key strategic partnerships for workshops and speaker series. James is also board chair of the Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP) San Diego chapter. A 6th generation San Diegan, James served as an undercover reporter across Eurasia, is a mean cook, and has a photographic memory.
Diversity and Inclusion
Adam Powers previously worked as Community Liaison with The Design Lab at the University of San Diego, the premiere university design research hub in the region. They is helping IWOB ask and answer the question, "How might we be more inclusive?" Adam also serves the WeAllJS community, an inclusive tech community with over 600 members.
At Underground Elephant, one of the nation's largest customer acquisition firms, Jarrod was the director of public affairs for two years and then spearheaded the development of the solar lead generation vertical of this prominent downtown firm. He is now an independent consultant, working with organizations such as the Institute of the Americas on branding and community engagement strategy, as well as assisting IWOB with strategic partnership development. Jarrod just came back from a summer-long road trip with his girlfriend and is an outdoor aficionado.
